Facebook Send Button Promotes Selective Sharing


The almighty Facebook ousted its “email to a friend” button this week and replaced it with a new send button.

Facebook’s newest baby essentially focuses on private sharing rather than public sharing features.

Clicking “Send” will yield a pop-up which allows you to send the article or page — complete with a message — to friends, groups or any e-mail address:

Interestingly, Send also counts toward the total number of Likes a page has. The Like total is now determined by adding the number of Likes, shares, comments and inbox messages containing a URL.

Designed to be the Like button’s companion, Send looks to be well on its way to becoming just as popular, as more than 50 websites launched it on opening day (you can see it in action on The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, People.com right here on CMSWire).

If you want to partake, you can grab the button’s code from the Facebook Developer Website. As with the Like button, it only takes popping in a few lines to get the Send button up and running.
